Business Central Telemetry Data in PowerBI Dashboard

What an exciting time to be a Microsoft Dynamics Business Central user, either a partner, admin, or client. Microsoft continues to improve the Dynamics 365 family of products.

With so much information of ERP usage, extensions, and overall data, it is sometimes difficult to understand or make sense of it. Especially when it comes to “Telemetry”. We hear it all the time with that term but what is it and how do you make sense of it.

The most simple definition of Telemetry according to Oxford dictionary is the Telemetry is a noun. It is the process of recording and transmitting the readings of an instrument. In other words, it is a collection of measurements of data at remote points, transmission to receiving.

As of recent years, Microsoft have given partners the ability to receive telemetry data. As far as I am aware, most people don’t do much about it. Probably because it is either hard to compile or make sense in a way of how to present it. It needed to be simple.

Well, I am excited to say that the Microsoft and the Microsoft Dynamics community contributions, whom all have come together to release the “Business Central Telemetry PowerBI Template App” found via the AppSource marketplace. You can now visualize aspects of Business Central usage. See user traffic, changes, errors, and performance in a single pane!
