Business Central - Company Badge

Sometimes, the simplest things can make a big difference or impact. A simple indicator that tells you what it is or what environment you are on. Sometimes, if you are not paying attention, a user may spend time and not realizing they are on the wrong environment this whole time.

So, for this week’s post, I will cover the simplest thing in Business Central that helps your user know exactly which environment they are on.

From the main menu of the user’s role, there is currently no indication if you are in a test, UAT (User Acceptance Testing), DEV, or production environment. You can easily make a simple change that provides a small indicator for your users to know which environment they may be on.

To do this, navigate or search for “Company Information”. Scroll down until you see the “Company Badge” fasttab. You can then change the Company Badge to ‘Custom’ and enter the Company Badge Text to whatever you’d like. It is limited to 4 characters. In my example, I will add the word “PROD” as it is my production environment and change the Company Badge Style as “Dark Green”. Although there are many options to choose from so choose what you like.

Update: Company Badge Text is now at 6 characters rather previously, it was only 4.

After you have configured this, it’ll refresh your main menu and you will find that cool indicator at the top right-hand corner.
