MB-800: How I Passed the Exam
In my bio or my “about” page, my purpose of the blog was to share knowledge. An outlet for me to put down my knowledge and experience over the past decade in Microsoft Dynamics.
As I was originally introduced to Dynamics NAV, dating back to 2008-2009, the first version that I was tasked to implement was Dynamics NAV 2009 RTC. Coming from different a different ERP software, it was a brand-new world. Being tasked to implement the backbone of a business while running an IT department, it was exciting but scary. Both feelings go hand in hand when it comes to something new in business.
Finding the right content was certainly difficult, very few documentations back then. This was during the transition between Dynamics NAV 2009 Classic and into the Role-Tailored client. The Dynamics community was barely started, in which I helped founded, here in the Pacific Northwest chapter.
As I navigated around implementing Dynamics NAV, I had originally come across the Dynamics NAV 2009 certifications. It was a tool that allowed me to validate my understanding and skills on Dynamics NAV 2009. After that, it sorts of just been discontinued from Microsoft regarding Dynamics certifications. From 2009 until the present, I’ve acquired other certifications outside of the Dynamics platform, but for several years, Dynamics certifications had been quiet.
Fast forward to modern times, Microsoft released the MB-800 Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Functional Consultant certification.
I have been meaning to take this exam for about a year, but things kept me busy and from taking it. With recent changes of the Microsoft partnerships, it has become clear that functional consultants should acquire their Business Central certification.
I took my BC certification and I hope what I am going to share with you will help and guide you. Although I’ve been in the Dynamics space since 2008, studying for this certification made me open my eyes. It allowed me to gain new knowledge as well as prepare for the MB-800 Exam. It is important to have the basic understanding of business processes to tie it with case studies and application procedures. The passing score is 700 for MB-800 certification, so it is important that you study for the exam.
Microsoft does provide you an option for a practice exam. Giving you a glimpse of what the exam would cover, what it looks like, and typical questions. I would suggest that you do not entirely rely on it as some, if not most of those questions, are not in the actual exam. However, I do believe it is helpful to help you prepare of what they may ask. Plus, the idea of the exam certification is to validate your knowledge, not just memorizing it. On a separate note, you can take your exam virtually, however, it is proctored but it is an option if you do not want to have to travel to a location.
How can you pass the exam? Below are the tools that I used to prepare and study for it. I was lucky enough to be able to pass it the first time but that’s without a lot of preparation. Below are the tools that I used to prepare myself. I know there are many options out there to help you study, but specifically for me, what I had listed below are invaluable and helped me pass the first time.
· Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central learning paths provided by Microsoft.
· Prepare and Setup a Sandbox Environment to test and validate your knowledge.
· Be involved in Dynamics User Group or Dynamics Communities. I’ve been involved with the community for a decade. Sharing and gaining knowledge through the communities are invaluable.
With that, I passed with a 793!
