Business Central - Undo Transfer Shipment!

Imagine when you were going about your day, working within Microsoft Dynamics NAV and you were working on creating a Transfer Order to move inventory from one location to another. There’s lots of items within the transfer order. Then BAM! You shipped the incorrect quantity to the other warehouse. Do you remember what you had to do to make that correction? Yeah, I know you do because I did. It was a painful process and very high risk of incorrect data. I worked with a company once who had to make corrections often, where they had to receive the entire transfer order and then make the corrections.

Imagine, that you now have an option to undo that mistake by doing an Undo Shipment function for Posted Transfer Shipment! With Business Central 2023 Wave 1 release, you can now go to your Posted Transfer Shipment, Undo that baby, make your corrections within Transfer Order, post and ship it.

So let’s take a transfer order example below where I shipped all 2 of item 1936-S Chair from Main warehouse to the EAST. I needed to send @Dvlprlife a single chair. So I need to undo this.

What I need to do now is navigate to the Posted Transfer Shipment and undo the mistake that I had made. Head to the Lines tab, click Line and “Undo Shipment”. This will create a corrective entry within the Posted Transfer Shipment as seen on the second screenshot.

Now head back to the Transfer Order, you will now see that the Quantity to Ship is now back to the original value. The next step is to ship the transfer accordingly with your corrected value.

So I went ahead and posted a Transfer Shipment of 1.

To confirm that I did in fact posted a Transfer Shipment of one, I will now navigate to the Posted Transfer Shipments list page. Please note that it will create a new Posted Transfer Shipment document, the correct value is captured nonetheless.

So if you deal with a lot of Transfer Orders, you’re bound to make some mistakes. With small efficient changes like these, brings a lot of value. Especially when it is saving you time.

Please note that you cannot undo a shipment if there’s reservation lines. You also cannot undo shipment lines if there’s a corresponding receipt lines already as well as ‘direct transfers’.
