Improved Customer Statement in Business Central

Business Central is a very powerful Enterprise Resource Planning software that has a very extensive feature set when it comes to automation, simplification, expansion, and many more features to list. For several years, there are not too many changes around finance and if you do, it is mostly reporting. One of those required report is the Customer Statement report.

Often times and throughout my career, the out of the box Customer Statement report will work about 80% of the time which is good. The other remaining are usually small changes like formatting and most importantly, only show certain ledger data. In fact, this is one of the common ask of changes when it comes making adjustments is: “Could it just show open items and not everything?”. So we go ahead and create a Statement of Work and provide an estimate of adding a flag that only shows Open Items.

With the last release, this is now possible, out of the box! When you run the Customer Statement report, you will now be presented with an option field called “Statement Style”. The drop down will provide you two options:

  • Balance: Get an overview of outstanding amounts (Only option then).

  • Open Items: This option will provide you the following information:

    • Disregard any entries with a posting date that is after the end date you provided within the filter option.

    • Only show a balance for open entries before the start date you provided within the filter option.

    • Only show open entries within the selected date range you provided within the filter option.
