Business Central - New User Experience: Switch Companies Across Environments

Microsoft Business Central team continues to expand the user experience in Business Central. Understanding that making the user experience as easy and seamless as possible, this allows for easy adoption of the Business Central application.

With Business Central 2022 Wave 2 preview release, there are plenty we can unpack and test of what’s new and planned. One of those changes, albeit small, has a long lasting impact to adapting to the needs of SMB organizations by organizing multiple companies across environments.

Some of the feature details to note regarding this new user experience:

  • Visual cues in the app bar help to quickly understand which company and environment you are currently working

  • Activate the company switcher pane from anywhere in Business Central

  • Search for companies you have access to, grouped by environment including production and sandbox environments

  • Switch companies in the current browser tab, or open the selected company in a new tab to multitask or compare side by side

How cool is this?! It is much easier now to navigate around versus maintaining separate URL links just to get to other environments.
